Charity Day: Ealing Autumn Festival

This day of concerts and events will support the invaluable work done by Cancer Research UK, and the Ealing Autumn Festival welcomes celebrity guest, John Sargeant.

This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt, and the Ealing Autumn Festival will be celebrating his work, legacy, and the broader influences on the arts from his country of birth, Hungary.

12.30pm    Exhibition
Kees Wattjes, Liszt Installation and exhibits, Piano Workshop

2.00pm   Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 (family friendly)
Presented by Gillian Spragg including Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, remixes, and the real thing.  And finally  Poème Symphonique for 100 Metronomes by Ligeti. (Metronomes needed!  Bring your own metronome to take part!)

3.30pm    Liszt leads to the future

Pauline Greene, Birkbeck lecturer, shows what Debussy, Bartók, Kodaly, Ligeti, Kurtag made of Liszt’s musical innovation and what Liszt might have done in the 21st century with remixes, with music recorded or played live by musicians including Alan Brett (cello), Gillian Spragg (piano).

7.30pm   Années de Pèlerinage (Book 3) — Paganini and the Grandes Études

An auction is planned before the main evening concert.
