A great master of the Germanic repertoire, German conductor Hartmut Haenchen offers two sessions of his personal and expert view of the works by Mozart and Richard Strauss, two composers separated by a century but united by the same tradition.
This programme reveals their similarities and differences, with Symphony no. 39 by Mozart, a work steeped in a passion corseted by classical forms and style, yet full of the magic of the more mature and inspired Mozart. This is true of the Lieder orchestrated by Richard Strauss during the last years of his life. "Waldseligkeit", "Ruhe Meine Seele" and "Caecilie" show us a more poetic and passionate Strauss, a man of pleasant sensuality and a profound Viennese spirit, which contrast with the highly charged final scene in Salome, an avant‐garde Strauss opera, sung by international star Angela Denoke.
