The Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Gran Teatre del Liceu will be taking part in the OBC season with an intimate programme of great works from the sacred choral repertoire.

From the great choral works composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, the "Magnificat" is one of the most popular. Based on the passage by the Apostle Saint Luke which narrates the visitation to the Virgin Mary, it was originally written to form part of the Lutheran Christmas liturgy and premiered in 1723 at the St. Thomas church in Leipzig. Now a concert piece as widely appreciated as the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré, it is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most moving works. A particularly intimate and peaceful requiem, like Mozart's "Ave Verum"; a small vocal gem.
