Enjoy Faust by Charles Gounod at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. This opera in five acts is based on the first part of Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The opera premiered on 19 March 1859 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris. The first performance at the Gran Teatre del Liceu took place on 17 February 1864.

The Liceu has been committed to offering a series of concerts featuring the most highly praised and best loved passages from Charles Gounod's Faust, which was originally premiered as an opéra‐comique at Paris's Théâtre Lyrique in 1859 and converted into a grand opéra to be staged at the Opéra in 1869. Though deeply indebted to Goethe's great work, the opera could not reflect the full wealth and depth of the latter and concentrates instead on the love affair between Faust and Marguerite. This is compensated by its great dramatic effectiveness and its many beautiful passages, which have become very famous. Faust is a seamless blend of the spectacular features of French opera  – the kermesse, the soldiers' chorus, and so on – and the splendid lyrical intimacy of numbers such as Faust's aria «Salut, demeure chaste et pure», the famous ballad «Il était un roi de Thulé», Marguerite's « jewel aria», and the love duet between the two protagonists. The melodic and harmonic opulence of the musical language has had a deep impact on French opera.

In some areas of the Gran Teatre del Liceu it is possible to be seated with a partially obstructed view of the stage. The Gran Teatre del Liceu recommends Zone 2 for the finest and completely unobstructed view of the performance. The stage is not visable from seats starting in row 2 of Zone 8.  A monitor is provided for following the performance in this section. Only available for operas.
