Anne Schanewilms and Stephan Gould will perform leading roles in Strauss' "The Woman without a Shadow" (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at the Salzburg Festival.

The Empress has no children and no shadow. When a messenger proclaims that the Emporer will have to turn into stone, the Empress and her Nurse search for a shadow.
The deceitful Nurse persuades the poor but happy Dyer's Wife to sell her shadow for wealth. The deal with the devil begins…

Richard Strauss has created an impressive opera with features of "One Thousand and One Nights", which takes place between a dream world and reality. A fantastic opera.
