The Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Catalunya and violinist Hilary Hahn will perform works by Elgar, Menotti, and Sibelius in the beautiful Auditori of Barcelona.

This programme features three works by highly lyrical and poetic composers. We begin with an inspired Elgar, whose “In the South” expresses the fascination he felt when observing the beautiful landscapes of southern Italy. This is followed by the expressive intensity of Menotti, an important twentieth‐century Italian‐American composer, who was one of the most personal and most loyal heirs of the Romantic movement in the avant‐garde era. His composition offers the chance to enjoy the interpretative authority and sensitivity of the extraordinary violinist, Hilary Hahn. The concert concludes with Sibelius’ most popular symphony, the stunning Fifth. Despite its rather epic nature, this work is dominated by captivating lyricism.
