Esa‐Pekka Salonen and the Philharmonia Orchestra

演出简介

At the Grafenegg Music Festival this year, Esa‐Pekka Salonen will conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra of London in a concert of orchestral music from the turn of the 20th century.

The London‐based Philharmonia Orchestra was founded in 1945 with the main aim of producing recordings. In the course of time, the aims of the orchestra underwent a complete transformation; conductors such as Arturo Toscanini, Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan left their mark on the orchestra’s early years and together with the musicians the ensemble gained an international reputation for superb quality. In 2008 the Finnish conductor Esa‐Pekka Salonen became the latest in a long line of outstanding musicians who have conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra. In Grafenegg he will present a programme reflecting the musical world in Vienna around 1900.

Enjoy the tremendous sounds of Mahler and Webern in the "Wolkenturm" at the Grafenegg Music Festival 2009.
