The ensemble Quatuor Mosaïques performs works by Haydn at the Styriarte!

In the last few months of his life, Joseph Haydn repeatedly played one theme on his pianoforte: the "Emperor's Hymn" which he called his "prayer". In politically turbulent times, Haydn had spoken from the heart of the Austrians with this melody, now it spoke from his soul. To remember the 200th anniversary of Haydn's death, the Quatuor Mosaïques perform his "Emperor's Quartet" with the Emperor's Hymn in the centre and two other quartets in minor, which, through a whirlwind of musical passions, belie the old story of "Papa Haydn".
