The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the great American orchestras, numbered among the famous Big Five. Founded in 1918 by N Sokoloff, its conductors have included Artur Rodzinski, George Szell, Pierre Boulez, and Christoph von Dohnanyi, four of the greatest conductors of our time. Under Franz Welser‐Möst, its current music director, we will have an opportunity to admire its rich sound, its homogeneity, and its fluid playing in works by Debussy and Beethoven, as well as in a new work by Matthias Pintscher, an impressive young German composer.
