Scenes from Goethe's Faust: Robert Schumann
演出简介
Enjoy a wonderful concert with music by Robert Schumann at the Gran Teatre del Liceu on Barcelona's famed avenue Las Ramblas.
Robert Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's "Faust" was premiered posthumously in 1862. It is one of his most ambitious works, of considerable depth and scope. Based on the two parts of Goethe's masterpiece, it calls for eight soloists, a symphony orchestra, a chorus and a children's chorus. Its prime features include the overture, Margarita's prayer, the «Death of Faust» and the entire, grandiose third part culminating in the great «Chorus Mysticus». Goethe said that the first part of Faust began like a tragedy and the second part finished like an opera. He also believed that only Mozart could have set it to music. In the event, Schumann was the only composer who borrowed from it and respected its literary integrity.
This great work is billed to complement the Liceu performances of Gounod's opera Faust. The same pivotal personage in European mythology will also be seen this season in a dance version by the Monte‐Carlo Ballets. Cast:
