Haydn and Max Bruch's String Octet provide familiar ground, while Poulenc's 'Sonata for two clarinets' stretches the bounds without breaking them. George Crumb's 'Vox balaenae — Voice of the Whale' takes music to a new dimension, demanding an amplified piano and electric flute to convey the inspiration of whale song.
