Iván Fischer, Budapest Festival Orchestra & Dmitris Sgouros
Iván Fischer conducts the Budapest Festival Orchestra in a concert that spans from the German Romanticism of Weber to the 20th century expressionism of Prokofiev.
The concert opens with the overture to "Freischütz", Weber's three-act masterpiece considered the founding work of German Romantic opera. Brahms' First Piano Concerto follows, performed by soloist Dmitris Sgouros. Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony closes the program. He took a little over a month to write it as the Second World War approached its climax in 1944.
