演出简介

About the Opera
'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' is a comic opera written by Gioachino Rossini at the beginning of the 19th century. One of the greatest masterpieces of opera buffa it is also one of the most popular operas in the canon. Based on Beaumarchais' play, the drama places Figaro, the enterprising and clever barber, at its centre, as he manages and manipulates the lives of those around him.

About the Composer
Gioachino Rossini was a prodigious Italian composer of the 19th century. He made his professional debut at the age of 18, and soon became one the most popular opera composers in history. His best known operas are 'The Barber of Seville' (Il barbiere di Siviglia), 'The Italian Girl in Algiers' (L'italiana in Algeri), and 'Cinderella' (La Cenerentola). Rossini's highly melodic style earned him the nickname of 'the Italian Mozart”. As his style developed, he became famous for the technique of building up orchestral sound over a repeated phrase, which is now known as a 'Rossini crescendo”.

About the Venue
The Gran Teatre del Liceu is the most prestigious opera house in Barcelona, and one of the biggest — and most important — in Europe. Founded in 1847 by the Philodramatic Lyceum of Montesion, with the aim of promoting musical education, it has since had numerous incarnations. The original building could not accommodate a large audience, and subsequent episodes — fire in 1861, and anarchist riots in 1893 — necessitated a number of reconstructions. In 1994 the theatre was totally rebuilt and equipped with modern technology after another fire. The improved and enlarged theatre opened again in 1999 with Puccini’s Turandot.
