Dvořák — Stabat Mater im Stephansdom

Dvořák — Stabat Mater at Vienna's Stephansdom

演出简介

Experience Dvorak's rarely heard Stabat mater at Vienna's beautiful Stephansdom. The Orchester Tschechische Virtuosen, the Cathedral Choir and Chorakademie Vorarlberg will perform under the baton of Marcus Landerer.

The medieval poem 'Stabat Mater dolorosa' inspired many composers — for Antonín Dvořák the work gained a tragic personal significance: in December 1875 his daughter Josefa died a few days after her birth. In August 1877, within a few days, his eleven‐month‐old daughter Ružena died of poisoning and his three‐year‐old son Otakar of pox.
The premiere of the work took place on 23 December 1880 in Prague. Further concerts followed in the later years. The brilliant English premiere at the Royal Albert Hall was the prelude to the subsequent world fame of this work.
