Revolutions: Cédric Tiberghien Plays Beethoven
演出简介
The Orchestre National d'Ile de France and pianist Cédric Tiberghien perform selected works by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven under the baton of Enrique Mazzola.
From Classicism to Romanticism — nothing less than a revolution!
Challenging codes, an exaltation of feelings … the Symphony No. 3 by Tchaikovsky, known as "Polish", which was composed in 1875, features five movements — rather than the usual four -, and challenges the classical form of the symphony. This symphony, made up of chained "affective states", that are very different from one another, concludes with the fifth movement "Tempo di Polacca", which illustrates the development and maturity of Tchaikovsky's style.
In his First Piano Concerto (1801), Beethoven initiates a revolution that will never be questioned: that a soloist can play "against" the orchestra. As for Beethoven, the revolutionary hero is the one who serves as a model, one who has freed himself from the past and the established order to create a new world.
