Mark Padmore conducts the Orchestra and Choir of the Age of Enlightenment in a performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion.
In the The St. Matthew Passion, his second major Passion after the St. John Passion, Bach made several innovations, such as adding a third choir and more varied recitatives. The result is a masterpiece that is one of the most poignant and complex Passions of all time.
Sung in German, with French surtitles
