Phèdre & Psyché: Lifar & Ratmansky

О событии

Phèdre and Psyché bring together two Russian choreographers inspired by French music.

A worthy heir to the Ballets Russes, Serge Lifar closely blends theatre, music and dance to create an imaginative ballet based on the Greek myth Phaedra. Georges Auric's powerful and dramatic score takes on an even greater tragic dimension thanks to Jean Cocteau’s sets and costumes. Alexei Ratmansky draws inspiration from César Franck’s enchanting and sensual symphonic poem for orchestra and chorus for his first creation with the Paris Opera Ballet.

Evoking the legend of Psyche, the choreographer explores the supernatural with the complicity of the remarkable visual artist Karen Kilimnik whose sets open into a dreamlike world of disquieting strangeness.
