Paris Opera Ballet: Mats Ek

О событии

Two major pieces, "La maison de Bernarda" and "Une Sorte de…", as different in style as in the themes they broach, help us to decipher the unique world of Swedish choreographer Mats Ek, at the Palais Garnier in Paris.

"La maison de Bernarda"  is inspired by Spanish writer Federico García Lorca's play and exposes the oppressive force of religion and family in a ballet of expressive dance and at times, cruel imagery. Blending traditional Spanish music with fragments of Bach, Mats Ek has conceived an "in camera" drama with a tragic conclusion.

"Une Sorte de…" is an invitation to journey and to dream. The performers expropriate objects from their usual function and find themselves in situations that at times are odd or comic, yet often endearing and off‐beat; an abstract ballet nonetheless suggestive of the complexity of human and loving relationships.
