Beneath the Dancing Sky: Fonte, Naharin & Forsythe

О событии

The number one dance event of the spring — Beneath the Dancing Sky: Fonte, Naharin & Forsythe

The spring contemporary dance premiere is a triple bill featuring three choreographers who were influenced by the dance scene in New York at the start of their careers, but worked in Europe for decades. William Forsythe and Nicolo Fonte were born and grew up in New York, and Ohad Naharin worked there as a young choreographer and dancer. All three have made a substantial impact on European dance through their work with several leading European dance companies.

William Forsythe
is one of the world’s best known active choreographers. He was director of the Frankfurt Ballet from 1984 to 2004 and is now involved with his own dance company. His Neo‐Classical work workwithinwork, set to a duet for two violins by Luciano Berio, was premiered by the Frankfurt Ballet in 1998.

Nicolo Fonte retired from dancing in 2000 and has since created several choreographies for companies in the USA and in Europe. Between 2002 and 2006, he created several works for the Gothenburg Ballet, putting the company on the map internationally. Cornered, premiered by the Royal Ballet of Flanders in 2007, is an elegant and polished Neo‐Classical work for four pairs of dancers.

Born in Israel, Ohad Naharin has been a choreographer for more than 20 years and artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company since 1990. His works have been performed around the world, and the Finnish National Ballet has also performed several of them. Minus 7 was created for Ballet Gulbenkian in Lisbon in 2002 as a cavalcade of highlights from his earlier works. It is a powerful and physical work that shapes a brilliant structure out of contrasting moods.
