Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow

О событии

Money, love, and waltzes -  Franz Lehár's "The Merry Widow" will be staged at the Finnish National Opera.

Hanna Glavari has inherited a fortune, and the powers that be in her native Pontevedro are concerned about keeping the money in the country. Therefore Danilo, a frequent guest at Maxim’s night club, is sent to court her. But it is not all smooth sailing. Many waltzes and songs are needed before true lovers meet.

“My starting point was the zeitgeist in the period before the two World Wars,”
says Director Jussi Tapola. “Money and love commingle with politics in a splendid setting according to the best operetta tradition. The result is comedy but also satire.”

“The new production is full of costume glamour, intoxicating love, gazebos, waltzes and compelling melodies — everything, in short, that friends of operetta want and expect."
, Kymen Sanomat, J.N.
