Rutter Requiem at St Paul's Cathedral

О событии

An evening of the world’s best‐loved choral and orchestral music, conducted by John Rutter. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is joined by the Choir of London and soloists Clio Gould (violin) and Elin Manahan Thomas (soprano) in this extraordinary concert event.

John Rutter brings his own special brand of musical magic to bear in a concert. Alongside the intense emotion of Barber’s celebrated Adgagio for Strings, Williams’ ethereal The Lark Ascending, is Tavener’s elegiac setting of Binyon’s familiar poem ‘They shall not grow old’, whose distant echo choir is utterly spine‐tingling in live performance. The concert also includes Rutter’s own Requiem, by far the most popular (to date) of his large‐scale pieces. Composed in 1985 in memory of his father, the music is, in Rutter’s words, ‘intimate rather than grandiose, contemplative and lyric rather than dramatic, and ultimately moving towards light rather than darkness’.

This is a unique opportunity to experience favourite works of the choral and orchestral repertoire in the grandeur of St Paul's Cathedral.
