Golijov and Ginastera

О событии

The Amsterdam Sinfonietta presents instrumental music by two modern Argentinean composers Golijov and Ginastera: From an homage to Piazzolla to a religiously‐tinted string quartet.

Three works by the Jewish‐Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov (1960) and the 'Concerto for Strings' by his compatriot Alberto Ginastera (1916‐1983) are performed at this year's Holland Festival.
Golijov is a great admirer of Astor Piazzolla and completed his homage 'Last Round' in which he treated the orchestra as a large bandoneon four years after Piazzolla's death in 1992. 'Dreams & Prayers' of Isaac the Blind was inspired by a manuscript in which Isaac the Blind stated eight centuries ago that everything in the universe is connected to everything else. The musicians should therefore be able to play the three‐part work in religious mood blindfold!
Furthermore, you hear the Youth Without Youth Suite, the soundtrack of a recent Coppola film about a professor who is suddenly younger and more intelligent after being involved in a natural disaster.

Listen to a variety of compositions with a Argentinean tango style and a touch of religious melodies by two contemporary musicians at the Holland Festival 2008!
