The peacock is the most beautiful symbol of the great contribution Kodály made to Hungarian music. Peacock Song is a musical composition for the stage, also drawing on film, in which spectacle and music form a poetic whole, showing what traditional peasant culture means for people today and what a good vehicle it is for expressing modern thoughts.
