The Marriage of Figaro at Oper Leipzig

О событии

Enjoy a wonderful evening with one of the most divine operas in the repertoire and perhaps the most perfect opera ever written. 'The Marriage of Figaro' opera in four acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte after Beaumarchais' comedy La folle journée ou Le mariage de Figaro of 1783.

The plot, one of the most humorous, is full of surprises and unexpected twists that contribute to the balance of the four acts. However, under the humor and absurd situations, the wrath of Figaro, the arrogance of the Count, the intelligence of Susana or the melancholy of the Countess probe the depths of the human heart and mind, adding a touch of nostalgia to these games of chance and love.

W. A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro was composed between the autumn of 1785 and the spring of 1786, and was based on Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais' critical comedy El día loco, or The Marriage of Figaro, written on the eve of the French Revolution. The work was designed as a critique of the 'vices, abuses and whims that hide behind the varnish of the dominant conventions of the time'. Lorenzo da Ponte cleverly rewrote the libretto text, and the opera premiered on May 1, 1786 at the Vienna Court Opera House in Old Burgtheater.

A masterful work of art, full of revolutionary nuances, in which Mozart not only ridicules the self‐esteem of the aristocracy, but he does so with a score whose psychological depth and ambiguity remain unmatched in music.
