The Nose: Birgitta Festival

О событии

In the late 1920s a young Shostakovich wrote the opera The Nose that is based on Gogol’s ‘St. Petersburg tale’ of the same name. The Brigitta Festival will present this satirical opera with the
Boris Pokrovsky Moscow Chamber Musical Theater this summer.

One morning Kovalyov discovers he is missing his nose. He informs the police of the ‘runaway’ nose. However, rumors in St. Petersburg tell of a Nose that is travelling on its own – some have seen at the Nevsky Prospekt, others at the Summer Gardens. The police run over each other to look for the Nose that is away without leave. Their efforts finally bear fruit – the Nose is arrested during a trip outside the capital. The police return the Nose to its legal owner, but it does not want to grow back to the proper place. Even the doctor is unable to help…

The Birgitta Festival of the Tallinn Philharmonic Society combines the dark charm of a medieval convent in Tallinn, Estonia with the latest in modern musical theatre in all its variety and richness.

Gates open two hours before the scheduled starting time of a performance. The Ribe Summer Terrace and Altia wine cellar also open at that time.
