A Midsummer Night's Dream: Latvian National Ballet

О событии

The Latvian National Ballet presents a A Midsummer Night's Dream based on Shakespeare's famous play.

The comic ballet revolves around the adventures of four young lovers, a group of amateur actors and their interactions with the fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest. Romantic intrigues of two couples are complicated still further by entering the forest where The King and The Queen of the Fairies preside.

Choreographer Youri Vámos: "Literature and music give me the courage and energy for a creation. That I get inspiration from Shakespeare's piece A Midsummer Night's dream is no surprise. It's a complicated, versatile, ironic comedy with direct points on the problematic love life of humans, and all this connected with the romantic sounds of the orchestra. Exiting but paradox: The honest freedom from the Elizabethan time in England (even some courage's symbols, such as Titania and the Donkey liaison) with a romantic score from the beginning of 19th century. I try to show what I understood from this libretto and with the possibilities of only body language to interpret it on stage. Therefore it is very important that the artists are not only dancers but will develop in to actors who can dance. When I achieve this, then maybe the audiences, that haven't read Shakespeare, will have as much enjoyment like I have.
Easy to say: I want to be understood."
