Antonio Gades' importance is an integral part of the history of Spanish ballet. He renewed flamenco and established it as a form of theatre ballet. One of his most famous works is 'Fuenteovejuna'. The choreography is based on a 17th century play and tells of a village community revolting against its oppressors.
