Indulge in flights of fancy with Mendelssohn's 'Midsummer Night's Dream' and the misty otherworldliness of the Hebrides, embodied in the composer's Overture of the same name. The orchestra and chorus of the Arena di Verona summon musical magic in their winter home at the Teatro Filarmonico.

Young Italian conductor Francesco Cilluffo pairs Mendelssohnian magic with a work by Amilcare Ponchielli — a composer primarily remembered for his opera 'La Gioconda', but whose influence as an educator informed and inspired a generation of composers including Puccini and Mascagni. Renowned clarinettists Giampiero Sobrino and Alessandro Beverari play Ponchiellis' 'Il Convegno' or 'The Meeting', a work that enjoyed huge popularity initially, but latterly fell from favor.
