Prayers by the Danube: Budapest Spring Festival
Over het evenement
The Saint Ephraim Male Choir and the Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis will perform "Prayers by the Danube" at the Budapest Spring Festival.
The peoples that live along the Danube own a particularly rich musical tradition that covers all fields, including church music. With a programme entitled Prayers by the Danube, the Saint Ephraim Male Choir delves into the exceptionally beautiful and valuable world of liturgical music, with help from the Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis. For centuries, the monasteries by the Danube were the most important guardians of culture, their schola cantorums raising countless generations of intellectuals from the Middle Ages on. Importantly, many of the remarkable composers and other musicians who worked in the wonderful churches by the river are now considered important masters of musical history.
The programme offers a lavish overview of the musical treasures of the Western and Eastern churches, from Germany to Ukraine, from the Middle Ages to the present.
