Brahms' Symphony No. 2 in D Major is unique because of its lightness, joy, and insouciance. Brahms' influence on the post‐Romantic generation up to Arnold Schoenberg cannot be overstated. 

Szymanowski is no exception, even if his Symphony No. 2 is much more dramatic than its "Brahmsian" counterpart.
