Most recently, the Vienna Philharmonic invited him to record all of Beethoven's symphonies with them. Now conductor Andris Nelsons presents Beethoven's famous Fifth Symphony to the Festspielhaus audience within a delightful compilation. There is, for example, the concert aria 'Ah! Perfido,' sung by soprano Christiane Karg. Beethoven composed the aria as a young man, but the dramatic work did so well alongside the fifth symphony that the composer simply revised the aria's opus number upward at its premiere, making the work seem much newer. In addition to the Beethoven, a highly romantic piece is heard: Schoenberg's 'Verklärte Nacht' in the string orchestra version.
