마들렌 교회
마들렌 성당은 19세기 로마 가톨릭 교회로, 파리의 콩코르드 광장과 가르니에 궁 사이에 자리한 아름다운 위치 덕분에 모든 이의 시선을 사로잡는다. 건축 계획과 자금 조달이 여러 차례 변경되면서 공사 기간은 80년에 걸쳐 이어졌다. 원래 나폴레옹이 승리한 군대를 기리기 위해 계획된 이 교회는 고대 로마 신전을 연상시키는 신고전주의 양식으로, 이전 교회들이 있던 자리에 있던 거대한 기둥들을 그대로 보존하고 있습니다. 마들렌 성당 내부에서는 아름다운 신비잔틴 양식의 모자이크, 회화, 조각품들을 감상할 수 있습니다. 신고전주의 건축 양식과 인상적인 내부 장식은 일 년 내내 교회에서 열리는 클래식 콘서트에 완벽한 분위기를 조성합니다. 음색의 아름다움 측면에서 파리에서 가장 인상적인 악기 중 하나로 꼽히는 웅장한 파이프 오르간은 라 마들렌의 음악 생활에서 그 자체로 중요한 역할을 합니다.

The concert was held in a beautiful church, a setting that perfectly complemented the music. The performers played with great skill, and the program featured familiar pieces that anyone could easily enjoy — a thoughtful and inviting selection. However, it was a bit distracting that a few audience members tried to record with their phones, occasionally blocking the view. It would be appreciated if the ushers could kindly remind attendees not to do so in future performances.

I booked this experience for friends who wanted to go. My review is based on their reporting of the event: THEY LOVED IT! The church was exquisite and the acoustics were perfect for the performance. Oh, and the performance — "magnifique!" Next time I am in Paris, I will book tickets for myself as well. Highly recommend!

The musicians were good, though sometimes a bit loose and out of step. Soprano was very strong. The real issues were with the venue management. There was no introduction/ prayer. And no instructions on phone/ camera usage. At times I could see/ was distracted by a dozen or more audience video recording the performance, and I was only five rows from the front! Holding their devices above their heads! Some were taking selfies. It seriously affected my enjoyment of the music and I think disrespectful to the musicians. More control please.
