Dvořák’s Rusalka: Birgitta Festival

イベント情報

The Birgitta Festival of the Tallinn Philharmonic Society combines the dark charm of a medieval convent in Tallinn, Estonia with the latest in modern musical theatre in all its variety and richness.

The Helikon Opera Theatre of Moscow performs "Rusalka", with stage direction by Dmitri Bertman.

This romantic opera by Czech composer Antonin Dvořák is a sad love story of a mermaid and a prince by Hans Christian Andersen, familiar from childhood. The opera is set on the borderline between the world of the humans and fairytale creatures that live in the nature. Characters from Slavic folklore come into being: Baba Yaga, Water Sprite, Forest Elder, etc., with whom great miracles happen. Meanwhile, the prince and the cunning foreign princess are contemporary figures from the world we live in.

The ballet is for adults with children as well as for those grown‐ups who already go to the theatre on their own. It is recommended to previously acquaint yourself with the fairytale by Andersen, the animated film by Disney, and also the sculpture by Edvard Eriksen.
