Opening Concert: Gaida Festival of Contemporary Music

イベント情報

The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will perform contemporary compositions in the opening concert of the Gaida Festival.

One of the most valuable pages of Lithuanian music in the repertoire of the LSSO is its participation in the the Gaida Festival of contemporary music every autumn. The festival enriches the orchestra’s repertoire with new compositions by Lithuanian and foreign composers, music by S. Reich, M. Gordon, H. Goebbels, and F. Zappa among others. The orchestra was first invited to take part in the festival in 1993, and since then it has been an equal partner of other collectives participating in the festival. The orchestra has launched this important musical event or closed it more than once.

Three compositions by Lithuanian composers will be premiered at this concert in the framework of the festival. The concert will close with a version for symphony orchestra by the American minimalist J. Adams’s opera “Doctor Atomic” composed in 2005. In 2007, Adams adapted the opera into “Doctor Atomic Symphony”. Music was taken from the overture and various interludes, and orchestral settings were made of arias.
