Under the direction of Claus Peter Flor, the Tonkünstler accompany Angela Denoke, one of the leading singers of her generation.

 

The programme features two completely opposed keystones. In his final years, Dmitri Shostakovich’s compositional style was rather sober. His last symphony is a musical look back on his long and fascinating life as an artist. In the process, Shostakovich cites the fate motif from Richard Wagner’s "Götterdämmerung", among other things. Finally, in the role of Brünnhild, Angela Denoke devotes the disputed "Ring" in Wagner’s monumental tetralogy to its ultimate purpose with the words "… der Götter Ende dämmert nun auf…" ("… the twilight of the Gods is nigh…").
