In 2005 and 2006, an homage is done for Mozart, on the occasion of his 250th anniversary of born. The Festival Pablo Casals took place for the very first time in 1950. On the peak of his career as a musician, Pablo Casals exiled himself deliberately from Spain and lived in seclusion in the city of Prades from the end of the Spanish Civil War. As a mark of protest he withdrew from further public performance. In 1950, however, encouraged by friends who reminded him of how much he was depriving a large audience of his musical genius, and also to mark the bicentenary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s death, he decided to give a series of concerts. He surrounded himself with the greatest musicians of his time: Clara Haskil, Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Rudolf Serkin, Alexander Schneider, Isaac Stern, Joseph Szigety… and, in an atmophere of musical fervour and friendship, the Festival Pablo Casals of Prades was born.
