Spanish Guitar and Symphonic Orchestra at L'auditori de Barcelona

イベント情報

Juan Manuel Cañizares will once again play his flamenco guitar with the OBC in a programme that includes the premiere of his latest work, a symphonic poem by Enric Granados inspired by The Divine Comedy, and the most colourful and spectacular ballet from Manuel de Falla, which premiered exactly 100 years ago.

Music with flamenco roots took on an international dimension thanks to Manuel de Falla, the great musician from Cádiz who was able to turn the gypsy‐inspired guitar rhythms and hand clapping into great symphonic works. He first did this with a dark, ‘jondo’ (deep) drama—El Amor Brujo—and shortly thereafter with very successful comedy full of rhythm and colour—The Three‐Cornered Hat—that premiered in London in July 1919 with sets and costumes by Picasso, it became an instant international hit. Granados left us few works for orchestra, but this symphonic poem stands out among them. It takes us to Dante’s version of Hell and the forbidden love between Paolo and Francesca da Rimini.
