The slow movement by Anton Webern opens the concert — a youthful work by the composer that is still quite untypical of his musical language and belongs to a late romantic world. The harmonically dense string quartet by Ottorino Respighi is a good example of his generation's search for an instrumental national style. After the break, Beethoven's Opus 127 is an outstanding example of his late style and one of the most popular works for string quartet.
