Beware an Italian girl set on victory — even the most powerful of men may find himself outwitted and outclassed! Rossini's archetypal heroine takes control of the court of Mustafà Bey, and the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona.
The young and witty Isabella contrives to release both herself and her beloved from the court of a rather foolish eastern potentate. A dramatic comedy in the abduction/rescue tradition popular in the early 19th Century, Rossini's signature melodies and manic energy at already refined in this opera, written when the composer was only 21.
