Enjoy Verdi's beloved opera, La Traviata, in Como!

After the successful debut of Rigoletto, Giuseppe Verdi began working on two new operas: Il Trovatore for the Apollo Theatre in Rome and another opera for La Fenice in Venice. The composition of this second work is more troubled, since Verdi was unable to choose the subject. The inspiration came from watching the first performance of La dame aux camelias by Dumas, written in 1848.

Verdi's opera follows the text and especially the dramatic spirit of Dumas' work closely, but the names of the characters were changed for reasons of prudence.
