Wagner in Budapest: Tannhäuser at the Palace of Arts

Lo spettacolo

Based on lyrical poems about the singing contest at Wartburg Castle, Tannhäuser is one of Wagner's best loved operas. Conducted by Adam Fischer, this production features Stephen Gould in the lead role.

Tannhäuser follows the struggle between sinful passion and the purest of Christian love. The Choir of Pilgrims is a memorable highlight, as is the unbridled orgy in Venus' grotto. The role of Elisabeth, representing love and purity, is performed by Hungarian soprano Tünde Szabóki.
