Having premiered Sally Beamish's Third String Quartet 'Reed Stanzas' in 2011, the Elias Quartet returns to its Celtic themes for this concert. Smetana's autobiographical First String Quartet offers joy, sorrow, and hope, while Ravel's sole work in the genre eschews open emotion to intriguing effect.
