Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle and Poulenc's The Human Voice: Opéra National de Paris

Lo spettacolo

Two tragic female fates dominate the center of operas by Bartók and Poulenc at the Palais Garnier in Paris, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski.

Bass‐baritone John Relyea and mezzo‐soprano Ekaterina Gubanova face each other in Bartok's one‐act opera Bluebeard's castle, recounting the story of the terrible Duke Bluebeard and his fourth wife Judith, whose curiosity will lead to her end. For Poulenc's La Voix humaine, a one‐act lyrical tragedy by French author Jean Cocteau, soprano Barbara Hannigan takes the stage on her own to deliver a powerful monologue wounded in desperation.
