Schumann's first symphonic work, the 'Spring' Symphony is full of a longing for the warmer days and softer breezes of the new season — an apt choice for an afternoon in April. Liszt's Second Piano Concerto sees the virtuoso's compositional career blossoming in a new way, moving away from the show‐stopping pyrotechnics of the First Concerto towards a more lyrical, heartfelt partnership between orchestra and piano.
