Opera Fuoco, David Stern & Daniel Buren: Bach & Telemann

Az eseményről

'One hundred thousand unfortunates devoured by the earth/ Who, bleeding, lacerated, and still alive,/ Buried under their roofs without aid in their anguish, End their sad days!'

With these verses taken from his 'Poem on the Lisbon Disaster', Voltaire memorialized the earthquake that shook all Europe in 1755. Telemann's grand oratorio, first performed the following year, also makes use of texts of Rousseau, Goethe, and Kant; Daniel Buren's video, created expressly to accompany Telemann's score, revisits the catastrophe.
