Prokofiev's Symphony No. 2, Roukens, and Revueltas

Sobre el espectáculo

Discover something new at the Concertgebouw. The Argentinean conductor, Emilio Pomàrico, acclaimed across a wide range of genres, conducts Prokofiev's least‐heard symphony, Revueltas, and the world premiere of a Concerto for two Pianos, played by the Jussen brothers.

The Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas modeled his Sensemayá on the chants of Afro‐Carribbean cult ritual — more commonly known as 'voodoo'. Dutch composer Joey Roukens enjoys a growing reputation, as evidenced by this commission from the NTR Saturday Matinee: his concerto will be played by the young duo, Arthur and Lucas Jussen. Finally, Prokofiev's Second Symphony is among the composer's most complex works. Multi‐layered and tempestuous, the work is rarely heard in concert halls, unlike the composer's more popular symphonic works.
