Pavel Haas Quartet & Boris Giltburg: Brahms' Piano Quintet

Sobre el espectáculo

Indulge in an evening of extraordinary chamber works. The acclaimed quartet and the celebrated pianist combine their talents for Brahms' supreme chamber work.

Originally written as a string quintet, but evolving via several versions into the piano quintet we know today, the quintet shows Brahms at his most adventurous, with unusual harmonic choices and a dark, almost dangerous, mood. Shostakovich' Seventh Quartet is likewise dark in its aspect. Composed in memory of Shostakovich' wife, the quartet takes the key of F sharp minor, associated with suffering in the works of Bach, among others. Finally, Schubert's 'Rosamunde' Quartet refers to numerous of the composer's other works, and demonstrates a cyclical tendency that would influence many composers yet to come, including Debussy.
