Fidelio (in concert): Theater an der Wien

Beethoven's only opera is closely connected to the Theater an der Wien which commissioned it and staged the world premieres of the first and second version in 1805 and 1806.

Leonore disguises herself as a man, called Fidelio, in order to find her husband, Florestan, in the dungeons where he is held as a political prisoner. She manages to win the trust of the jailer Rocco.
When her husband's enemy the governor Pizarro orders Florestan to be killed in secret Leonore manages to prevent it.
