Bach in the Original

Sobre el espectáculo

Wolfgang Zerer (organ, harpsichord) and Gunar Letzbor (violin) perform at the Palace of Arts in Budapest.

The language of Bach’s instrumental music comes under the spotlight as reflected in his favoured instruments and its pioneering forerunners. Through the pieces performed at this concert, the essence of the immortal Bach’s music vividly takes shape.

Both monumental and intimate, the various instruments played by musicians highly skilled in performing early music evoke a musical picture of contrast and harmony as images reflected in one another.
Wolfgang Zerer teaches organ at Europe’s most important centres of early music (Hamburg, Groningen and the Schola Cantorum in Basel). As an organist and harpsichordist, he has travelled the world from the United States to the Far East. In a series comprising the complete works of Bach, he has played the most renowned historical organs of Groningen and Leens.

One of Gunar Letzbor’s most important mentors was Nikolaus Harnoncourt, under whose influence early music became his main field of interest. As a member of Musica Antiqua Köln, he too travelled the world before founding his own group, the Ars Antiqua Austria ensemble. It was with this group that he recorded Bach’s complete violin concertos. This is the first performance by both musicians in Budapest.
