Quatuor Mosaïques

Cuarteto de cuerdas

The four musicians met in 1985 at the pioneer ensemble for early music Concentus Musicus Wien, led by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. With their shared experiences as a starting point they worked very intensely for a number of years on the ensemble culture and their repertoire, before producing their debut CD with string quartets op. 77 by Haydn. This worldwide success became the start of a huge international career. In the meantime the Quatuor Mosaïques has recorded a huge part of the classical repertoire on CD. Many of these recordings received international awards. The quartet has its own cycle at the Mozart‐Saal of the Konzerthaus in Vienna. In spite of the large repertoire they hold on to the most important: gut strings, low tuning and the use of classical/baroque bows.

Quatuor Mosaïques have carved out an outstanding reputation in the quartet repertoire of the late 18th century and they are without doubt the greatest quartet ensemble of our time performing on authentic instruments. They are celebrated the world over for their „period‐style“ interpretations, which at the same time never lose sight of the precious European quartet tradition.
